The Granite Hills Eagles, undefeated coming into the game, scored 14 1st quarter points and then the Diablos rolled scoring 49 unanaswered points going on to win 49-21. Diablos Shock Servite With Aggressive Approach - Win Division 2 CIF Title
The Mission Viejo Diablos, led by Coach Chad Johnson, had an aggressive game plan and shocked the Servite Friars and their thousands of fans that were on hand at MVHS to see the Diablos shut down the Friars and win 34-15. In doing so the Diablos were crowned the 2023 CIF-SS Division 2 Champions. The CIF-SS Division 1 Playoffs got underway as the Santa Margarita Eagles traveled to Chatsworth, California to take on the undefeated Sierra Canyon Trailblazers. The Eagles spotted the Trailblazers a 21 point 1st quarter lead before making a vailant comeback. The Eagles held the Trailblazers scoreless in the 2nd and 3rd quarter but opportunities eluded the Eagles down the stretch. Monarchs Stop Eagles in 4th Quarter
There was a full moon at Eddie West Field in Santa Ana, California and that might explain this wild and at times off the rails game between the Santa Margarita Eagles and the Mater Dei Monarchs. The Eagles defense played as well as anyone expected as they consistently had the Monarchs guessing. Three turnovers by SM resulted in 21 points but they held their ground as MD had a 21-19 lead with just minutes left before the Monarchs rose to the occassion on an Eagles third down play. The JV Trinity League opener between the Santa Margarita Eagles and the St. John Bosco Braves came down to 2 fourth down plays and a third play to cap off the game.
