It was a perfect day at the Old Majors Ball Park in San Juan Capistrano as the Giants took on the Angels for the Double A Championship Game. This would be a great game and one that would offer all aspects of baseball including a walk off RBI single to win the game. Let’s get to all the action. The Giants get things going in the top of the 1st , Donny Rimmer tees this one up as Hayden Dendiu turns on the jets, he’s headed for home and it looks like it’s going to be close. The throw is there but the runner misses the plate, a heads up play by the catcher to make the tag and he’s out. Back on the base paths…Donny Rimmer goes on the pass ball and successfully steals 3rd base. The Giants get on the board with this hot line drive by Henry Vangelos that just goes off the tip of the 2nd baseman’s glove as the Giants led 1-0. Check out this bunt by Tip Dendiu, he lays it down and beats the throw driving in a run as the Giants led 2-0. The Giants picked up their 3rd run off this tricky grounder by Nick Vu to the right side of the infield. The throw was not in time as the Giants led 3-0. The Giants capped off the inning on this bases loaded walk as they led 5-0. On the mound for the Giants was Henry Vangelos, he helps himself out with this nice play on the comebacker. He then gets out of the inning with a big strike out as the Giants were in control early. The Angels get some good pitching of their own as Jordan Shaw strikes out the batter to end the top half of the 2nd. Bases were loaded in the bottom of the 2nd for the Angels but Isaiah Mathews comes up with a clutch strike out to keep the Angels scoreless. Top half of the 3rd, bases loaded as Trey Pate places this ball nicely into right field as two-runs come across and the Giants led 7-0 but this game was far from over… We go to the top half of the 4th and things start to change for the Angels. Trent Little makes this nice basket catch. The Giants did not score in the inning. The Angels would score in the bottom of the 4th as Francisco Jaime came up and crushed this pitch over the centerfielders head, the ball rolls to the fence Jaime pauses at 3rd briefly and then goes home, the throw was not in time and the Angels were on the board. We pick up the action in the bottom of the 5th with a runner on 2nd. Trent Little comes up and connects on this pitch to left field. The hit drives in a run and the Angels had some momentum. The momentum continued as the Angels would score 5 runs in the inning making it 10-7. Clutch pitching by Patrick McClemmy in the top of the 6th. The Giants have two on but the Angels get out of the inning down by 2 with this strike out as they head to their final at bat. With a runner on 1st Patrick McClemmy gets the end of the bat on this shot to right field, almost in slow motion this hit turns the game around. After a couple of mis-handled throws McClemmy is quickly on the heels of Francisco Jaime as Patrick goes all the way for the round tripper. The Angels were down by 1. After a walk and a stolen base, the Angels kept it going with McFadden at 2nd base and Aiden Burns at the plate. Burns rips a line drive down the 3rd base line. McFadden turns the corner and scores the tying run. Burns ends up at 2nd. After a pass ball Burns gives it his all and steals third base. It was a little sketchy but he stayed on the bag. What was a great battle at the plate culminated with Gunnar Michalis hitting a shot to short that was simply too hot to handle. Burns comes in from third and the Angels stage an incredible come back winning the game and the San Juan Little League Double A Championship 11-10.
